MESSAGE OF SOLIDARITY AND GOODWILL TO THE PEOPLE OF SOUTH SUDAN AND AFRICA AT THE SIGNING OF THE REVITALIZED AGREEMENT ON THE RESOLUTION OF THE CONFLICT IN THE REPUBLIC OF SOUTH SUDAN (R-ARCSS)

October 28, 2018

People of South Sudan, People of Africa, People of God!

On 12th September 2018,the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS) was signed byH.E President Salva Kiir and H.Dr.Riek Machar; SPLM-Former Detainees; South Sudan Opposition Alliance and Other Political Parties; the 17 Stakeholders and 6 Guarantor Heads of State and IGAD; the AU High Level Ad-hoc Committee on South Sudan and Africa and International Partners and Witnesses to the long-awaited culmination of years of dreaming, hoping, praying, negotiating and not a few false starts.

We commend all the parties for agreeing to sit at the negotiating table with the aim of bringing lasting peace to the nation. The implementation of the Revitalized Agreement to resolve the conflict should be pursued at all costs and with the right leadership; South Sudan can be great again.

As the great task of Nation Building starts, it will require hard work, selflessness, love and a focused, firmcommitment to the ideals of Ubuntu. The people of South Sudan must now rise up and steer their nation to their God given destiny guided by a common vision for the nation that they shall bequeath to the coming generations. As we continue to journey with and support you, we strongly urge all the people of South Sudan, both in the country and the diaspora, to invest in laying the right foundations for a peaceful and prosperous Nation -State.A deliberate effort to build trust and confidence in the process will require a deep sense of authenticity on everyone’s part.Additionally, each man, woman, boy and girl, starting with the leaders, needs to be fully persuaded that South Sudan’s boundaries contain an abundance that every citizen has the right to enjoy and steward. But without peace, this may never be realized.

Nation Building, Reconstruction, Healing and Reconciliation will need to take top priority so that those of our brothers and sister who were forced to flee can come back and find a safe space to contribute to the future of South Sudan.

As we mark this auspicious occasion surrounded by the great cloud of witnesses that is the individuals, neighbouring countries and the international community, let the people of South Sudan unite in their determination towards renewal. Without a commitment to instituting lasting peace, the generations of the future will judge the current one harshly.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God” Matthew 5:9
