Introduction
With a record 500 participants from 112 churches in 31
nations, the AACC’s 3rd General Assembly continued and
broadened the path of ecumenical dialogue on the African
continent. With powerful speeches and bold mandates, Lusaka
was able to delve deep into issues affecting the Church and
ecumenism in Africa. Because of its resolutions regarding
African church independence, the gathering at Lusaka became
known as the “moratorium” assembly.
