The Third
General Assembly: Lusaka, Zambia Theme: Living No Longer
for Ourselves but for Christ 2 Corinthians 5:14-15
1 2-24 May 1974
Conclusion
Lusaka saw a high level of energy, intensity and
desire for concrete resolutions. The theme of Living No Longer
for Ourselves but for Christ was fully applied as delegates
discussed how to get involved in issues ranging from
oppression in South Africa to devastation in the Sahel. Unity,
family, and education re-emerged as topics of concern, both in
Lusaka’s mandates and work groups. Selfhood of the African
Church was at the fore of many discussions, and the moratorium
on western aid showed the Church’s commitment to independence.
In the words of Rev. Dr. Andriamanjato, the AACC was now in
its adulthood, equipped with a new location, and fully ready
to face the day’s challenges.
