The Seventh General Assembly:
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia Theme: Troubled, But Not Destroyed
2 Corinthians 4:8-9 1-10 October, 1997
Introduction
The years between Harare and Addis Ababa were
momentous, to say the least. The era of apartheid ended in
South Africa, and Malawi saw democratic elections. Yet Rwanda
and other nations suffered unthinkable genocide in the midst
of these triumphs. At the AACC, continued efficiency in
leadership boosted confidence among member churches. The 7th
Assembly brought together Christians not only from all of
Africa but also from the Diaspora. Looking forward to the
millennium, the Assembly focused on “entering the 21st century
with hope” (7th AACC Assembly Report, 1998).
