The
Seventh General Assembly: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia Theme:
Troubled, But Not Destroyed 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 1-10
October, 1997
Conclusion
The Addis Ababa Assembly played a balancing act
between two millennia, looking backward at successes of recent
years and forward to continued ecumenical action on the
continent. Conflicts loomed large in several countries, and
the AACC voiced its desire to be an agent of peaceful
reconciliation. The Assembly addressed modern social issues
like genetics and AIDS, while also highlighting the plight of
children. All actions recommended by the Assembly were to be
enacted with tolerance in the knowledge of Christ’s
commandments.
