Reports to the
Assembly
• Women’s Pre-Assembly Report: This gathering
discussed several commitments the church must consider: •
Encourage ordination of women • Re-interpret the Bible
from women’s perspective • Gain skills to analyze and act
on women’s issues • Create sub-regional workshops
educating churches about NEPAD • Speak out on violence
against women, assist survivors and devote one Sunday a year
to this issue
• Youth Pre-Assembly Report: The
devastation of HIV has taken the lives of young ecumenical
partners who were active in youth planning. Despite this
tragedy the youth pressed on to make these recommendations:
• Church should stand up against the exploitation of
multinationals • The youth need true support from churches
• Give youth better ecumenical training • Recognize
that corruption can be as deadly as a disease like HIV
• Report of the Resolutions Committee: Revealing the
AACC’s new mission and vision statement, the committee
highlighted the need for honest operations. The Church must
always work with integrity and in the spirit of love. The
committee also stressed the importance of the AACC
Constitution’s Article IV, which lays out the organization’s
structure. Some of the new organizational norms for the AACC
were: • Accountability and professionalism •
Effectiveness and efficiency • Ecumenism and inter-faith
dialogue • Full inclusion and representation
