Nehemiah 2:17-18

Yaoundé Covenant

Faithfully committed to furthering the liberation of Africa, the Assembly put forth the following reflections:
• The Church shall allow no abuses or misuses of African diversities by those within or without the continent
• Create mechanisms for stability and peace
• Stop completely the tragedy of uprootedness
• Foster solidarity and Christian ethics based on love, justice and tolerance
• Oppose child labour and the use of child soldiers in war
• Work for the welfare of children in homes
• Work to get children off the street and into safety
• Rally against both domestic violence and substance abuse
• Uphold and empower women regarding laws about their rights
• Affirm the sanctity and dignity of all humans
• Fight stigma and discrimination surrounding HIV and other diseases
• Increase affordable access to treatment of malaria, HIV and TB
• Define strategies to alleviate poverty
• Fight economic dependency with better management of time and resources
• Eradicate illiteracy and promote education at all levels
• Find African solutions to African problems
• Raise awareness, commitment and protection for a sustainable environment
• Accompany and engage NEPAD
• Respond to globalization, while keeping spiritual humanness
