NINTH WEEK BEFORE CHRISTMAS: 26 OCT. – 1 NOVEMBER, 2008
THEME: ‘RECREATING GOD’S WORLD.’ READING: ISAIAH 65:
17 – 25
“Behold, I will create a new heaven and a new
earth” is a phrase that the writer of the second part
(chapters 40-55) of the book of Isaiah is fond of. Through
this phrase he is making a very important point, which is that
creation is not something that was just done in the past. God
is always creating and renewing creation through acts of
salvation. God still speaks through prophets, and that word
brings new life to us. I am sure you may have heard a sermon
recently that encouraged you, that lifted your spirits and
that gave you hope when you were despairing. That is how God
continues to create and re-create among us. In this process
God uses us as participants in this act of ‘creating’ and
‘recreating.’ We are called to be friends with God through
actions that may bring hope to people in our communities,
countries and continent. You don’t have to do anything big;
through small actions of love we can restore God’s hope in the
hearts of those who are despairing. Today, you can encourage
someone, you can show an act of love to another person, or you
can assist someone who needs something done. Through these
actions you can brighten their day and make the world – make
Africa a new creation.
