Lectionary
Here is a collection of Bible reflections intended to
prepare us on our journey of faith towards the 9th General
Assembly in Mozambique (6-13 December, 2008). The idea is to
be nourished, enriched, strengthened and united as people of
faith in Jesus Christ as we move on to Maputo.
We
shall be meeting in Mozambique when the signs of the times
send us mixed signals. There are signs of despair and signs of
hope on the continent. On the one hand poverty is pressing on
unabated; HIV continues to decimate our populations and many
of our people are still groaning under the yoke of bad
governance. Nonetheless, on the other hand, there are flash
points that uplift us. Some of our leaders have demonstrated a
genuine endeavour to move towards democracy; there are schemes
to improve conditions of people living with HIV in some
places. Above all, God is using the prophetic ministry of the
Church to let the continent of Africa hear God’s voice. The
reflections in this booklet are meant to inspire us to discern
what God’s will is for us in these ominous times.
Our
hope is that the 9th General Assembly will be a means to let
the Holy Spirit fall afresh on our Churches. Thus, our prayer
in the Assembly will be that God may use the AACC as a channel
of blessing to Africa. As we go to Mozambique, let us be
enlightened by God's Word to make the AACC a beacon of hope to
the dispossessed people of this continent in these challenging
times.
Our profound thanks to: Rev. Arnold Temple, Ms
Catherine Ouma, Dr. Dedji and Rev. Ndhlovu the Coordinator for
the 9th General Assembly and all brothers and sisters who have
worked so hard to produce these beautiful reflections.
May God's holy word continue to be "a lamp to our feet
and a light to our path.” (Ps.109, 105)
