AAYC Panel on Accelerating Sustainable Development in Africa Through Fostering Ethical Leadership And Eco-Stewardship.
The 3rd day of the 2nd All Africa Youth Congress in Nairobi, featured a plenary session on accelerating sustainable development in Africa, through fostering ethical leadership and Eco-stewardship Ethical leadership, for the Africa we want. The panel, moderated by Caroline Goddard from the Gambia, had Morapelo Lebohang from Lesotho presenting on Ethical leadership for the Africa we want and Tapiwa Yemeka from Zimbabwe on Creation care and life-flourishing economies, finally Placide Ngendahayo presented on Artificial intelligence & Sustainable development for Africa.
In his presentation Morapelo Lebohang Ramoleko underscored that Africa’s transformation depends on leaders who embody Ubuntu values of integrity, accountability, and collective responsibility. He emphasized that ethical leadership especially among youth must reject corruption, foster transparency and champion justice, serving as the moral foundation for the inclusive and sustainable Africa envisioned by its people.
Speaking on Creation Care and Life-Flourishing Economies, Tapiwe Yameka emphasized the urgent need to align Africa’s economic growth with environmental stewardship, calling for sustainable models that honor creation and nurture all forms of life.
Placide Ngendahayo urged African youth to embrace Artificial Intelligence not as passive consumers but as ethical architects of innovation anchoring technology in Ubuntu values, justice and human dignity. He emphasized that Africa’s digital transformation must be guided by moral stewardship and spiritual discernment, ensuring AI advances humanity rather than replacing it.
In closing, the session highlighted the shared call for ethical, sustainable and inclusive leadership across Africa. Speakers emphasized that the continent’s future depends on integrity, environmental stewardship and a collective commitment to building just and life-flourishing societies.
